A gift guide of beautiful things you might actually need. Objects to get online, in Vienna, in Brussels (if you're lucky) + private sale of great objects I can do without.
When it comes to gifts, I’m the worst. I hate having to give gifts. I don’t expect to get them (… but nothing is stopping you). I don’t mind exchanging things but what gets in my way is a mix of hard deadlines and chronic indecisiveness. Only made harder by the fact I don’t easily assume others might like the things I like as well. Late or random gifts are more my style. But perhaps I can help you on your way. (If my Instagram dm’s are any indication, this might not be that useless
)
So from me to you: a gift guide. A convenient & fun format to make sense of some of the design/domestic objects that I cherish. Ideal stuff to wrap for someone special or just for yourself.
Out of personal experience, I distinguished between a) gifts you can get online, b) gifts you should be able to secure in Vienna and c) gifts ideas based on my flea market digging in Brussels—practically the only good thing about the city where I’ve now been based for 2 years. To make it both easy and extra exclusive for you, I’m ending on a private sale of 9 things I (being less of a materialist than you might think) can do without. First come first served, shipping from Brussels should be fast. Expect prices you can’t get (and I wouldn’t ask) on online resale platforms. Blame it on the Christmas spirit.
By reading, you can maybe help me get the one thing I want (and definitely do need): a teapot designed by Oscar Tusquets. Silver-plated exterior & gold-plated interior. I promise to share a less auction-y picture when it’s mine:
My friend Nikolaas was kind to edit out my slight dyslexia [Editor’s note: in case anyone every wondered why ‘phardrus’, here’s your answer]. He also thought that my selection of gift objects would benefit from some contradiction or ‘interruptions’. So watch out for the ‘Engravings special’, studies for personalized gifts made by Renée Paule’s for the occasion. Starting here:
